Publishers on the N3 network use the N3 player to show videos.
The N3 player is a video player with an integrated nanosite (the area
at the bottom of the player), which sometimes shows sponsored ad content.
A sponsored nanosite is a 'mini site' built in Flash. It can include videos, games, slideshows, user input fields - in fact anything Flash can do, a sponsored nanosite can do.

When a sponsored nanosite is not showing, related videos are shown instead. See this in action
A sponsored nanosite is an uninterruptive form of advertising i.e. the main video presentation is not interrupted by the ad unless the viewer chooses to view it. This contrasts with a TV ad where the main presentation IS interrupted whether the viewer chooses to view it or not.
A sponsored nanosite works on two levels:
1. Similar to a banner placed in a prime position, i.e. the viewer is aware of it but does not interact.
2. As a 'mini site', when the viewer chooses to interact.
Either way, the viewer doesn't leave the publisher's page and has complete freedom to choose how to interact with the nanosite, which can offer a very entertaining, informative and media-rich experience.
A pre-roll ad before the main video presenation is interruptive and generally irritates the viewer. A post-roll ad at the end of the main presentation is often ignored by the viewer.
However, a sponsored nanosite is not interruptive - it gives the viewer the option to engage with it.
